Why is Following the Quran Essential for Success

Assalamu Alaikum sisters, brothers, friends and elders:
We welcome you to Statement Number 58 in our series of statements. We will explain in it that: (Why is Following the Quran Essential for Success ), our aim is to learn and teach from the Quran and Sunnah, reflect on history and seek solutions to problems with divine guidance.

The Quran is the final revelation from Allah to humanity, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as a guidance, mercy, and light for all people until the Day of Judgment. Its message is universal, timeless, and complete, offering a comprehensive system for belief, worship, morality, and social life. Following the Quran is essential for success in this world and the hereafter, for it directs humanity towards the straight path, shields from misguidance, and provides solutions to all aspects of life.

The Quran itself makes it clear that true success is directly linked to adhering to its teachings. In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 2, Allah says, This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah. The Quran is introduced as a book free of error and filled with guidance for those who fear Allah. Success begins with taqwa, or God-consciousness, and the Quran nurtures this quality by teaching what is right and wrong, lawful and unlawful, and what leads to eternal prosperity.

One of the strongest reasons the Quran is essential for success is that it provides the only clear map to eternal salvation. In Surah Al-Muminun verses 1 and 2, Allah declares, Certainly will the believers have succeeded, they who are during their prayer humbly submissive. Here, success is tied not to wealth or worldly achievements, but to faith and sincere worship. The Quran outlines the qualities of believers that lead to Paradise, reminding mankind that worldly gains are temporary while the reward of the hereafter is everlasting.

The Quran also protects against misguidance. Allah says in Surah Taha verse 123, And whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor suffer. This verse demonstrates that the Quran is not just for recitation but must be followed as guidance in daily life. Those who adhere to it are promised safety from confusion in this world and protection from punishment in the hereafter. On the contrary, those who turn away from it face consequences, as mentioned in the next verse, Surah Taha verse 124, But whoever turns away from My remembrance, indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, also emphasized the importance of following the Quran for true success. In Sahih Muslim Hadith number 1218, he said, I have left among you two things; you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. This Hadith makes it clear that success and protection from misguidance come from adhering to the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet together. Without this foundation, humanity will fall into error and division.

Another reason the Quran is essential for success is its role as a source of justice, mercy, and social harmony. In Surah An-Nisa verse 105, Allah says, Indeed, We have revealed to you, O Muhammad, the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you. The Quran provides laws and principles that establish justice in society, protect the rights of the weak, and prevent corruption and oppression. Without these divine laws, human societies fall into injustice and chaos. Thus, following the Quran ensures success not only individually but also collectively as a community.

The Quran also serves as a source of healing and mercy for believers. In Surah Al-Isra verse 82, Allah says, And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers. Success is not only material but also spiritual, and the Quran provides inner peace, cures the diseases of the heart such as arrogance, envy, and despair, and inspires hope in Allah’s mercy. Those who recite, understand, and implement it find contentment and tranquility in all situations, which is a form of success in itself.

Furthermore, the Quran emphasizes that true success lies in preparing for the life to come. In Surah Al-Asr, Allah swears by time and says, Indeed, mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. This short chapter summarizes the path to success: faith, righteous action, truth, and patience. Without the Quran to guide these qualities, mankind is doomed to failure.

The Quran is also described as a clear proof for mankind. In Surah Al-Anam verse 157, Allah says, And this is a Book We have revealed, blessed, so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy. The Quran teaches that success is tied to mercy from Allah, and mercy is attained by following its guidance. Ignoring it leads to loss and deprivation of divine mercy, while adhering to it opens the doors of Allah’s blessings in both worlds.

The Quran does not only provide spiritual guidance but also wisdom in worldly affairs. It encourages seeking knowledge, honesty in trade, fairness in dealings, and kindness to others. These qualities lead to prosperity, peace, and dignity in society. Thus, success in worldly matters too is tied to applying the Quran’s teachings in all areas of life.

In conclusion, the Quran is essential for success because it provides divine guidance, protects from misguidance, establishes justice, heals the heart, and leads to eternal salvation. It is not merely a book of recitation but a complete manual for life. Allah promises success and mercy for those who follow it, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, assured that holding fast to the Quran prevents misguidance. To achieve true success, one must not only recite the Quran but live by it, reflecting its teachings in belief, worship, and daily conduct. Indeed, following the Quran is the path to ultimate triumph in this world and the hereafter.

We conclude today's discussion with this humble supplication: O Allah, purify our hearts, accept our deeds, forgive our sins, and include us among Your grateful servants. Amen
