The Sacred Heart is a symbol of divine love: Jesus revealed His heart as "so inflamed with love for men" that it could no longer contain its flames and needed to manifest them. He showed His heart on a "throne of flames, more brilliant than the sun," surrounded by a crown of thorns and topped by a cross. The flames represent His ardent love, while the thorns represent the sins and ingratitude of humanity.
