George R.R. Martin Just Told You Why Winds of Winter Isn't Happening
2026 will be the year of A Song of Ice and Fire. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut on January 18 and the new trailer depicts a much more light and whimsical take on Westeros we have yet to see. Coupled with the news of House of the Dragon Season 3 wrapping filming, Casey Bloys (HBO Boss) announced it will be ready to go in the second half of the year, likely in its previously filled late summer/ early fall spot. But one thing on the year is going to be conspicuously missing and it is something that has been absent since 2011.
George R.R. Martin was at New York Comic Con in support of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and he obvious had to whine about not working on Winds of Winter and how it is the fans fault. He all but admitted he prefers working on other projects, but paid lip service to the series that made him a household name to begin with.
The books are never getting finished because GRRM doesn't have respect for the fans.
