Rise Up and Take the Land: A Thanksgiving Declaration for Canada

I recorded a message this Thanksgiving morning to declare what God is doing, to call the remnant to rise up, and to give thanks from a place of faith. If you joined me live, you felt the urgency in the Spirit — a stirring to worship, to pray, and to take dominion by the authority we've been given. Below is the heart of that message, shaped into a sermon-style, pastoral exhortation so you can stand with us, pray with us, and act with confidence.

Introduction: Why We Gather on Thanksgiving

We gather on this Thanksgiving not simply to observe a calendar day, but to offer a corporate sacrifice of praise. This nation — our beloved Canada — is a gift from the Lord. He has placed us here to steward its resources, its freedoms, and its culture. Today I call you to both thanksgiving and action: to worship God wholeheartedly and to speak prophetic truth into our land. We gratefully remember that scripture instructs us to give thanks in all things, and we do that even as we recognize the pressing challenges before us.

What We're Facing: Political Darkness, Spiritual Warfare

We are not naive about the reality confronting our nation. There are political forces and policies that seek to control, to censor, to silence, and even to shorten days. The rise of medically assisted suicide in Canada is staggering: it is currently the fourth leading cause of death, and on the trajectory we were discussing, it could become the first by 2030. That statistic is a spiritual symptom as much as it is political. When a nation moves toward normalizing death as policy, the church must arise.

Alongside these policy concerns, there are spiritual spirits pushing an Amalekite pattern into our culture — a spirit intent on stealing, oppressing, and inducing despair. We must call it what it is and bind it. We are not called to bow in defeat, but to declare the Kingdom of God into the public square.

Prophetic Immediacy: Decreeing That the Days Be Cut Short

The Word says that God, in His mercy, can cut days short for the sake of the elect. I felt this as I prayed: the Lord is calling us to bind the darkness and cry for Him to shorten the days of oppression. We do this not out of fear but out of faith — believing that God will act on behalf of a faithful remnant.

When I say "rise up and take the land," I mean it spiritually and strategically. God promises every place where we set our feet. He calls us to take dominion by praying, proclaiming His truth, and living as a holy influence. This is not an invitation to physical warfare; this is a summons to spiritual authority, prophetic speech, and righteous action.

Praise as Warfare: The Power of Our Words and Worship

We have more power in our mouths than a nuclear arsenal. That is not hyperbole: that is the biblical principle of prophetic declaration. Scripture after scripture in the Psalms reminds us to bless the Lord, to lift praise, and to declare His steadfast love. I called the people this morning to a sustained praise — to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts and to offer the fruit of our lips to God.

Praise breaks chains. Worship opens heaven. When we sing, declare, and pray with thanksgiving, we release the host of heaven to work on our behalf. I called for the Lord of Hosts to send forth His mighty armies to encamp around those who fear Him. This is spiritual strategy: we pair heartfelt praise with specific petitions for our nation.

Scripture Anchors: Psalms That Define Our Posture

Throughout the message I read from and stood on Psalm after Psalm because God's word is our anchor. Key themes included:

Psalm 34 — "Taste and see that the Lord is good." The Lord delivers those who fear Him and encamps around them with protection.
Psalm 89 — The promise of God's covenant and His established throne; we call for His kingdom to come on this land.
Psalm 100 and 92 — Thanksgiving and worship as our primary response.
Psalm 136 — Repeatedly declaring "His steadfast love endures forever" as a corporate and prophetic refrain.
Psalm 145 and 150 — Extolling God's greatness and praising Him with everything we have.

These Psalms were not quoted as sentiment alone; we spoke them as decrees. Scripture functions as both prayer and command when declared in faith.

Practical Exhortations: What the Remnant Must Do

Faith without works is dead. As I spoke, I pressed the remnant to practical steps that accompany our spiritual posture:

Wake up and rise up — spiritual lethargy is part of the problem. We must intentionally pursue godly governance by engaging the culture and praying for leaders.
Speak boldly — use your mouth to call forth righteousness, justice, and truth. We have authority to say "no" to evil and "yes" to righteousness.
Stand in the gap — intercede for those who do not yet know their authority in Christ. We are lifting up the church to realize who it is and what it can do.
Support and steward — give to ministries that are building the remnant, strengthening the body, and advancing the Kingdom (you'll find specific giving information at the end of this article).
Engage responsibly — keep your eyes open to policies and practices that threaten freedom, but act out of love and righteousness, not fear or hatred.
A Call to Unity and Hope: We Are Not Alone

Even when things look bleak — even when political leaders make puzzling moves like last-minute photo-ops abroad — we are anchored in a sovereign God who is moving. I reminded the people that what looked impossible in other nations has been overturned by the Lord when His people stood. The example of revival, repentance, and reform is alive today. We must expect that God will do the same here.

We are not to be unequally yoked in fear with the world. We are to align our hearts with Christ, trust His timing, and partner with Him in the work. The remnant is small, yes, like Gideon's 300, but it is mighty because God refuses to let man take the credit and delights to do marvelous things through a few who obey.

Economic and Cultural Restoration: Calling Back the Bounty

I declare that Canada will again steward its abundance in righteousness. Our land is rich — natural resources, fisheries, timber, oil, and agricultural bounty are God’s provisions. We refused the lie that these things are exhausted. The earth was made to sustain us; the created order bears fruit. I prayed that the wealth stored by the wicked would be released back to the righteous and that our nation would become a breadbasket and net energy exporter for good.

This is not prosperity preaching divorced from responsibility. It is a prophetic expectation that God will restore what was stolen and bless the people who steward resources in accordance with His will.

Encouragement for the Weary: You Are Not Forgotten

Many feel the pull to leave — conversations over dinner revealed couples preparing to move abroad because of the oppressive currents they perceive. I spoke directly to that strain: staying or going is a personal decision, but the Lord has called some of us to stay and fight. If you are weary, remember Psalm 145: God upholds the falling and raises the bowed down. He is near to all who call on Him in truth.

We will not be shamed or silenced. Our cry is for justice, for mercy, and for revival. We will not grow faint; our hope is in the Lord. We will rise on wings like eagles and press in until freedom and righteousness are restored.

Worship with us. Praise softens hearts and opens heaven. Even a small offering of praise — a stanza of a Psalm, a short prayer, a wholehearted "thank you, Lord" — releases heavenly hosts to minister to our need.

Conclusion: The Kingdom Is Here and We Must Speak It

Today I called Canada back to God. I declared that the land belongs to the Lord and that He has entrusted it to us to steward. We will not surrender our authority to deceitful political spirits or to those who would normalize death and despair. We will bind the spirits that work in darkness and decree that righteousness, justice, and truth are restored.

Keep speaking. Keep praising. Keep standing. We are the remnant, and our words carry power. The Lord is at work — He is cutting days short for the sake of the elect, He is turning hearts back, and He is releasing provision. Let us move forward with thanksgiving on our lips and action in our hands. The Lord’s steadfast love endures forever.

As you go today, choose one small act of worship: pick a verse of Scripture, sing it aloud, and declare it over your home, your city, and this nation. Stand on the promise that God’s kingdom will come and His will be done here.
