The European Union is rolling out its biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) from October 11, marking a major shift in how non-EU citizens, including British travellers, enter and exit the bloc. The system will record each traveller’s fingerprints, facial images, and personal details, replacing traditional passport stamping. It applies to all Schengen area countries, except Ireland and Cyprus, along with Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. A six-month phased rollout will see varying requirements at different ports and airports until full implementation by April 2026. For UK travellers using the Eurotunnel, Port of Dover, or Eurostar, biometric checks will occur before departure. The EES also lays the groundwork for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) — a future scheme that will require non-Schengen visitors to pay a small pre-travel fee. - News Report.
