This morning in devotion I was meditating on the verses in Isaiah 40:28-31. The set up of these passages reveals the entire life of the believer from youth to old age in beautiful sequence.

From what we begin like to what we become at the end. Jonathan and I shared experiences and the depths of God's love. I have read these passages for over five decades, yet today a light shown on a verse that became a little hidden jar of manna tucked away. The verse reads:

"But "THEY" that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..."

I clearly saw that our strength is not in our youth, or in later years, but when we become old in the faith. The lesson is waiting on Jesus Christ. Jonathan and I discuss the journey from the perspective of our own long lives. The waiting on the Lord practiced out becomes faith's quiet rest. A happiness comes from God as we age because the waiting is not idleness, but the sweetest abiding in long experience of His promises and work of the Holy Spirit.
