Which culminated in his announcement in a text chain to confidantes that he planned to leave the pro-Israel movement. One Zionist friend of Charlie's, conservative commentator Josh Hammer, participated in calls and meetings to help "refine" his messaging on Israel, and claimed Charlie was only "blowing off steam" and being sarcastic about making a break with Israel.
