SCRIPTURE READING FOR
TODAY Jam. 3:8-12 Amp

Jas 3:8 But no one can tame the human tongue; it is a restless evil [undisciplined, unstable], full of deadly poison.
--
Jas 3:9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.
--
Jas 3:10 Out of the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. These things, my brothers, should not be this way [for we have a moral obligation to speak in a manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect for His precepts].
--
Jas 3:11 Does a spring send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water?
--
Jas 3:12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh.

The Word of God To Meditate On Today: Your Tongue Can Be Tamed Jam 3:8-12 AMP

1. The Tongue Reflects the Heart’s Condition - The tongue is not the problem itself—it is the symptom of the heart.

Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matt 12:34).

If bitterness, pride, or anger fill the heart, the tongue will express them. Only a heart renewed by the Holy Spirit can produce words of grace.

--

2. Mixed Speech Contradicts True Worship - James exposes the contradiction of blessing God yet cursing His image in man. To worship God while speaking evil of others is hypocrisy—it defiles both the altar of prayer and the witness of the believer. Like a spring cannot produce both fresh and bitter water, a believer’s words must be consistent with the nature of Christ within.

--

3. The Tongue Is Spiritually Potent, It Creates or Destroys - Words are creative forces. God used words to frame the world (Heb 11:3), and man, made in His image, wields similar creative authority. An undisciplined tongue poisons relationships, ministries, and destinies. A Spirit-governed tongue builds, blesses, and brings healing (Prov 15:4).

--

4. A believer’s maturity is not measured by the noise of their worship but by the discipline of their words. When grace rules the heart, the tongue becomes a fountain of life.
