LSP Footage From Trooper-Involved Shooting in St. Amant W/The_Facts_Dude

The Louisiana State Police released body-worn and in-car camera video from a traffic stop in which a trooper fatally shot Brandon Nicholas, 34, in St. Amant. The encounter began when the trooper pulled Nicholas over for a broken taillight at the intersection of LA-431 and LA-935. According to state police, the trooper asked Nicholas to step behind his vehicle, asked about weapons, and then observed a firearm on the floorboard when Nicholas opened the car door. The video shows the trooper ordering Nicholas out of the vehicle, attempting to handcuff him, and reacting during a struggle—Nicholas allegedly reached toward the recovered weapon. The trooper discharged their weapon multiple times. Nicholas drove away before stopping about 1.5 miles later, then exited the vehicle; additional law enforcement and EMS arrived on scene. Investigators later recovered a loaded handgun near where the vehicle had stopped and say forensic analysis linked it to Nicholas. The trooper was uninjured. The footage is part of an ongoing investigation by the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit.
