Still trailing the bandits who stole Shinran’s statue, I travel to Koyana Ruins in search of higher ground. The ruins themselves whisper of ancient stories long forgotten, but the present demands my focus. A patrol of heavily armed guards looms nearby—merciless and organized—but they do not see me as a threat. They are right, for now. I am not yet ready to confront them, but their time will come.

From the summit of the tallest structure in the ruins, I scan the horizon. In the distance, nestled among the hills, I see movement and faint outlines of buildings. Toneyama Post Town. My quarry stirs within. The statue, the bandits—it is all within reach. The trail is growing hot.

As I turn to leave, something catches my eye—an obscured trail veering off the main path. It’s no accident of nature. This is man-made. A small wooden sign reads: "Path of Valor."
A test?
I accept.

What follows is a trial of skill and endurance—rope swings over jagged cliffs, climbs that push my fingers to their limit, and narrow beams that demand the balance of a monk and the precision of a hawk. None of it impossible. But combined, they challenge not just the body, but the mind. At the path’s end lies my reward: Tamakichi’s Hood—an exquisitely crafted piece of armor far superior to my own. I don it without hesitation. A small gain, but a meaningful one.
Step by step, trial by trial, I am becoming stronger.
