US President Donald Trump has announced an additional 100% tariff on China after the expansion of Chinese export curbs. Trump also announced US export controls on "any & all critical software", adding that extra levies will come into effect from November 1. Donald Trump threatened to cancel the summit with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. The two were scheduled to meet at the APEC summit later this month. Referring to China’s expansion of curbs on rare earth mineral exports, Trump said tariffs were in retaliation for Beijing's "extraordinarily aggressive moves". China defended curbs and said they were to safeguard national security and interests. Trump called China’s stance “very hostile”.
