Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh): A horrifying crime has shocked Gangnauli village in the Doghat police station area, where the wife and two young daughters of a mosque’s imam were brutally murdered inside the mosque premises on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the victims — Irsana (30), her five-year-old daughter Sofia, and two-year-old daughter Sumaiya — were found lying in a pool of blood inside the Imam’s residence attached to the Big Mosque. Preliminary investigation suggests they were hacked to death with a sharp weapon.

At the time of the murder, Imam Ibrahim, originally from Sunna village in Muzaffarnagar, had gone to Deoband. Locals said Irsana used to teach neighborhood children at her home inside the mosque compound.

The crime came to light around 3 p.m., when children who had come for tuition discovered the bodies and alerted adults nearby. Police teams soon reached the spot, but tension erupted as angry villagers clashed with officers while they attempted to remove the bodies.

DIG Meerut Kalanidhi Naithani and Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Rai visited the scene. The DIG has formed special investigation teams to probe the triple murder from all possible angles.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and forensic teams are collecting evidence from the crime scene. Police said the motive behind the killings is not yet clear, but every possible lead is being explored.

The brutal murder of the Imam’s family has left the local community in shock, raising serious concerns about safety even in places of worship.
