GROWING up Destinee, 20, never realised being born with a limb difference would make her stand out from other people. It was in her first year of kindergarten that the bullying started, which continued throughout school, having a huge impact on her confidence and self image. In January 2020, Destinee began making videos online, which started gaining people’s attention. To her surprise she received lots of positive messages, particularly from people with the same disability. The response completely changed her outlook and helped her to begin embracing her difference. She uses humour in her videos to challenge stereotypes and assumptions surrounding disabilities, which has brought her 800+ followers on TikTok. Destinee told Truly: “I like to make content that shows people with disabilities can lead regular lives!" There was a point in her life where she was self conscious of her arm and dating, but not anymore. Destinee identifies as pansexual and is open to all genders and sexualities - will her blind date be as open minded?
