TRON: Ares - Just Look at the Pretty Lights!

In this TRON Ares review, I discuss how TRON: Ares chose spectacle over substance. But when the spectacle is not all that spectacular, your movie's gonna have a bad time. Tron Ares, following in none of the footsteps laid down by TRON Legacy, or TRON for that matter, had a full lineup of weak characters, perhaps only outdone by how weak the story was. Every time this movie tried to explore some grander idea or topic, it felt like it was shoe-horned in as an afterthought. NiN was solid, and Jared Leto wasn't the complete disaster he could have been, but I can't see you getting anything out of watching this movie that you can't get from the trailers, so it gets a HateWatch from me. But if you want to be a good little consumer, just sit back and watch the $180 million laser show!
