How is the Supreme Power of Allah Explained in the Quran

Assalamu Alaikum sisters, brothers, friends and elders:
We welcome you to Statement Number 53 in our series of statements. We will explain in it that: (How is the Supreme Power of Allah Explained in the Quran), our aim is to learn and teach from the Quran and Sunnah, reflect on history and seek solutions to problems with divine guidance.

The Quran is the eternal word of Allah, revealed to guide humanity and to remind mankind of their Creator. One of the most emphasized themes throughout the Quran is the supreme power and authority of Allah, who controls all aspects of creation. From the beginning to the end, the Quran presents the power of Allah as unmatched, absolute, and beyond any comparison. It repeatedly reminds humans that all power belongs to Him alone and that none can resist His will or share in His dominion. This truth is central to Islamic belief and is described in many different ways in the Quran and explained through the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

The Quran establishes that Allah is the Creator of everything, and creation itself is a sign of His supreme power. In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 117, Allah says, The Originator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, Be, and it is. This verse shows that Allah does not require any tools, materials, or partners to create. His command alone brings things into existence, which highlights His absolute control and limitless power. No human, idol, or force of nature possesses this ability.

The power of Allah is also explained through His knowledge and authority over the unseen and the seen. In Surah Al-Anam verse 59, Allah declares, And with Him are the keys of the unseen, none knows them except Him. He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. This verse illustrates that Allah’s power is not limited to the vastness of the universe but extends to the smallest detail of existence. Every event, every action, and every hidden secret is under His perfect knowledge and power.

Allah’s power is described not only in terms of creation and knowledge but also in His control over life and death. In Surah Al-Mulk verse 2, it is stated, He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed. He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving. This verse reminds believers that life itself is a gift and a test, and death is not random but part of Allah’s perfect design. No one can delay or advance their appointed time of death, and this truth emphasizes the ultimate authority of Allah over the destiny of all creatures.

The Quran also describes Allah as the One who governs the universe without fatigue or limitation. Surah Al-Baqarah verse 255, known as Ayat al-Kursi, states, His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. This verse highlights that Allah’s supreme power is free from weakness or exhaustion. Unlike His creation, who become weary, Allah sustains the entire universe effortlessly. This divine quality reminds humanity of their own dependence on Allah and the futility of relying on anyone else.

Another important aspect of Allah’s supreme power mentioned in the Quran is His ability to change situations in ways beyond human comprehension. In Surah Aal-e-Imran verse 26, Allah says, Say, O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. This verse shows that power, wealth, honor, and position are not permanent or self-earned but given and taken by Allah alone. It serves as a reminder to leaders and rulers that their strength is temporary and subject to Allah’s will.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, also explained the greatness of Allah’s power. In Sahih Muslim Hadith number 2756, the Prophet said, Allah’s Hand is full, and nothing would diminish it, if He were to spend day and night. Do you not see what He has spent since He created the heavens and the earth, yet all that has not decreased what is in His Hand? This Hadith emphasizes Allah’s limitless resources and generosity, which never reduce despite His continuous giving.

On the Day of Judgment, the ultimate display of Allah’s supreme power will be witnessed. The Quran describes in Surah Az-Zumar verse 67, They have not appraised Allah with true appraisal, while the whole earth will be in His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him. This verse reminds mankind that the grandeur of the heavens and earth, which seem vast and limitless to humans, are insignificant compared to the power of Allah.

The Quran also makes clear that none can challenge or resist Allah’s power. In Surah Fatir verse 2, Allah says, Whatever mercy Allah opens for the people, none can withhold it, and whatever He withholds, none can release it thereafter. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. This verse demonstrates that no force in existence can oppose Allah’s decision. His mercy reaches whom He wills, and His decree is final.

In conclusion, the Quran describes the supreme power of Allah through His role as Creator, Sustainer, Knower of the unseen, and Controller of life, death, and destiny. His power is unmatched, free of weakness, and beyond human imagination. Through His verses and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, believers are reminded that their reliance should be on Allah alone. The Quran’s descriptions of His authority and might inspire humility, gratitude, and submission in the hearts of believers. Recognizing the supreme power of Allah not only strengthens faith but also provides comfort and assurance that everything lies under His perfect control.

We conclude today's discussion with this humble supplication: O Allah, purify our hearts, accept our deeds, forgive our sins, and include us among Your grateful servants. Amen
