Deuteronomy 20

In chapter 20, Moses passes on God's instructions for warfare.

The men were to be reminded that God was fighting their battles for them, and that they didn't need to be afraid, and they didn't need every single man in Israel for their battles. God wanted them to enjoy the blessings of 'their inheritance', the promised land.

They were to destroy the people in the promised land, but offer peace to people making war against them once they were established and God was expanding them.

The people were to keep trees bearing fruit alive, but could cut down the non-food trees for besieging cities.
