This Is Something 80s Remix | Friday Night Videos | Top Secret (1984) Viewing Party

This is mostly what was popular this week September 19th from 1980-1989…if it was I the top 100 around this time then…that’s what I selected from. You’ll find songs from 80-89 in no particular order, but I’d say this is heavily focused on what is in the Top 100 between 1985-1986 but there are some others outside that thrown in.

Intro Channel Flipping
Retro 80s era commercials
Toonces the Driving Cat

Friday Night Videos
Artists Featured in the Setlist

I added quite a few special requests from regular viewers to this one...hope you all enjoy it.

Hall & Oates
Loverboy
Janet Jackson
Billy Ocean
INXS
Prince
Billy Squier
Vanity

…just to name a few…tonight’s new mix is over 90 minutes of 80s hits

I’m gonna try & scrounge up a screening of Top Secret because it’s both important for the research & it’s easily as funny as Naked Gun & Police Squad if not funnier.

(Disclaimer : The Following Text is in all my 80s mix descriptions…if you read it once, it hasn’t changed…editing takes long enough, I’m not writing a new description every week..thanks)

This is mostly about taking a break from the madness w/a bit of classic TV from the late 80s. Take a trip back with me to the 80s when Darkroom was beginning to air on one of the three major networks...yep...3 channels we had to choose from without the 'miracle of Cable TV'...not only did you have to be 'lucky enough' to live in the Suburbs to get MTV...you'd still have to call your local cable company & demand "I WANT MY MTV!"

To make matters worse…after 1985, we didn’t even have access to cable…we got our music video fix from NBC, every Friday Night at the ass crack of dawn..and the videos were slim pickins…but when you live in the sticks…this was like gold.

Honestly, MTV didn't suck back then. It was pretty great actually. Get this...when you tuned in, they made the bold programming decision to play music videos 24 hours a day...or at least something resembling 'music'...mixed with 'video'...instead of The Real World Survivor Amazing Race marathons....before they destroyed modern television with Reality TV, they actually played music videos & I will tonight as well...and I'll throw in some SNL skits, classic commercials (long distance rates were a bitch back then)...and other interesting things from the 80s that might surprise the kids to learn.

There was no smartphones...computers used huge floppy disks & played mostly text only games like Oregon Trail or you might be lucky enough to know someone with a Macintosh who can play Summer Games or something graphical...but modems & the like...were mostly something we saw Matthew Broderick use in WarGames & Ferris Bueller but didn't have access to ourselves. To make matters worse...I lived on a farm in 1987...way the hell away from modern conveniences...which meant we got our entertainment by VHS tapes
