It has been reported that Ubisoft canceled the development of a new Assassin’s Creed game that takes place during the reconstruction era following the Civil War.

The games would have supposedly featured a black member of the assassins who was a former slave and would battle against the emergence of the KKK in the American South. The project was partially canceled because of how Assassin’s Creed Shadows underperformed as well as real world politics. Ubisoft dove into identity politics by focusing their game set in feudal Japan on a black character, something gamers rejected. Also, audiences are tired of media constantly demonizing half of the country by equating them with racist groups in the past.
