Across the country, some are choosing to mock Christ through “de-baptism” ceremonies at Pride events
Across the United States, a disturbing trend is emerging: “de-baptism” ceremonies being held at various Pride events. These rituals, meant to symbolically “reverse” Christian baptism, are being promoted as acts of “spiritual liberation” or rejection of organized religion. However, for millions of believers, they represent nothing less than a mockery of Christ and the Christian faith.
In states like California, New York, and Oregon, organizers have incorporated these performances into Pride festivals, using hair dryers, saltwater, or even smoke to “wash away” the effects of baptism. Participants are led by self-proclaimed secular leaders or “humanist priests” who recite phrases like “I renounce the guilt imposed by religion.” Videos of these ceremonies have circulated widely, sparking outrage among Christian communities nationwide.
Critics argue that these are not harmless personal expressions but deliberate acts of anti-Christian provocation. Reverend Franklin Graham remarked that this is “not about finding spiritual authenticity—it’s about a cultural agenda meant to ridicule Christ and those who follow Him.” Others see it as another sign of the growing hostility toward Christianity in modern America.
The idea of “de-baptism” began years ago in Europe, where atheist associations offered symbolic “certificates of de-baptism.” But its introduction into Pride celebrations adds a provocative dimension, merging sexual activism with open contempt for religious belief. Many conservatives view it as yet another example of the double standard in cultural tolerance—where any mockery of Christianity is considered acceptable, while criticism of other faiths would be condemned as hate speech.
Republican leaders and faith advocates have warned that such events highlight an increasing cultural war against faith and morality. “Imagine a public ceremony rejecting Islam or Judaism—it would be considered hateful,” wrote one conservative commentator. “But mocking Christianity is applauded as ‘brave’ or ‘progressive’.”
Many churches have responded not with anger but with prayer and forgiveness. Pastors across the country have encouraged Christians to stand firm in faith and respond with grace. “Christ Himself was mocked and crucified,” one Texas priest said. “Our response must be to pray for those who don’t understand what they’re doing.”
The viral spread of these “de-baptism” events serves as a sobering reminder of the spiritual battle unfolding in America. As moral boundaries blur and traditional faith is scorned, believers are left asking: how far will society go in normalizing disrespect toward the sacred?
For conservatives, this is not merely a political matter but a profound spiritual warning—a sign that the fight for truth and faith in America is far from over.
