On September 23, 2025, at approximately 1710 hours, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported assault in the 27000 block of Saxony Drive. The complainant alleged that Daniel Burch, 50, a resident of the area, had assaulted a neighbor. Deputy Timothy Poole was dispatched to the scene and, due to safety concerns expressed by the victim, escorted them back to their residence adjacent to Burch’s home.

During this escort, Burch approached Deputy Poole in a confrontational manner, referencing prior law enforcement visits to his residence and making threatening statements. The encounter escalated when Burch advanced toward the deputy, prompting Poole to deploy his Taser. Burch resisted the Taser, broke free from its effects, and reached for the deputy’s holstered firearm. In response to this immediate threat, Deputy Poole discharged his service weapon, striking Burch.

Deputies on scene immediately rendered aid to Burch, who was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. Deputy Poole was uninjured and has been placed on administrative leave, per standard CCSO protocol, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
