Soft, Silent, and Powerless: The American Church Has Lost the Real Jesus

The modern American church has become soft, silent, and powerless because it no longer follows the real Jesus of Scripture.
We’ve allowed the world to redefine love, tolerance, and truth—and as a result, the church has lost its fire, its boldness, and its power.

When I preached outside the Mormon Conference and asked if they had their “magic underwear” on, the backlash came from Christians, not Mormons. Why? Because most believers today serve a worldly image of Jesus—a polite, weak, and compromising version that never offends anyone.

But the Jesus of the Bible wasn’t “nice.” He called Herod “that old fox.” He flipped tables. He rebuked false teachers and warned of hell. The early church fathers—Tertullian, Athanasius, Ignatius—mocked heresy and refused to bow to culture.

This sermon exposes how the church traded truth for tolerance and how we can reclaim the power of the Gospel by returning to the Lion of Judah—the real Jesus.
