Youth-led anti-government protests have rocked Madagascar, killing at least 22 since September 25. The country's President Andry Rajoelina has sought a year to fix the problems, and if he failed to do so, he would step down. The remarks were made during a meeting at the Presidential Palace, which followed days of youth protests led by the Gen Z Mada movement. The demonstrations, triggered by anger over persistent power and water shortages, escalated into broader dissatisfaction over corruption, unemployment and the rising cost-of-living crisis. Rajoelina has invited protesters for talks, but his calls were rejected by the movement, which accused the government of repressing them and their human rights. The President also sacked his entire government last week and appointed an army general as Prime Minister to end the stir. But protesters have made fresh calls for agitation on October 9.
