For many years he thought he could evade the final end,
avoiding each encounter that the future may yet send
but ultimately even he was forced to recognise
the ugly truth which stared at him with tears in its eyes.

Through the tunnel it pursued him, right across the ridge;
implacably it hunted him where, underneath the bridge,
he paused a moment in a doomed attempt to catch his breath
yet in his soul he knows it will not stop until his death.

This is the final station. There’s nothing to fear,
after all, it must be said, he knew he’d end up here.

Along the old embankment and inside the fogman’s hut,
it followed him until he felt nausea in his gut.
To be pursued relentlessly was more than he could bear.
Under the bridge, inside the station, it was everywhere.

It chased him past the signal box, across the viaduct;
no matter where he tried to hide, he knew his life was fucked.
He had a fair few friends who he thought used to like him once
but lately he’s discovered even they’re a bunch of cunts.

This is the final station. There’s nothing to fear;
thus he welcomes what will happen now he’s standing here.
