UNIT Riding On The GWR.

Note: the GWR refers to the Great Western Railway which endured until 1948 when all the railway companies in Britain were nationalised by a government lamentably ignorant of free market economics.

Monday morning I received a wire:
‘you ought to know the situation’s dire’
so I packed my case and my trunk,
feeling ragged after seven days drunk
and now I’m riding on the GWR, yes, I’m riding on the GWR.
This train has no dining car
and worse yet, it doesn’t even have a bar.

When I arrived they took me to a tent;
God only knows where everybody went.
Bodies on the pavement or dying in a ditch,
the elderly, the young, the poor and the rich
and now I’m riding on the GWR, yes, I’m riding on the GWR.

Faggots and transsexuals, every kind of freak,
made Sodom and Gomorra’s future definitely bleak.
At the next station where I didn’t want to stop
I saw every perversion from the bottom to the top
and now I’m riding on the GWR, yes, I’m riding on the GWR.

and worse yet, it doesn’t even have a bar.

At the next station I thought I saw
a glimmer of sanguinity but nothing more.
Somebody asked me why God does not care;
I thought to myself maybe he’s not even there

At the final station I remain on the train,
unable to endure the sight of even more pain.
This must be a mess even God can’t mend:
a line of bodies with a start and no end
