The Slavery Abolition Act - who fought to keep slavery and who was against it - past and present

The Democratic Party of the past and the contemporary Democratic Party continue to advocate a similar underlying message regarding slavery, albeit articulated in different terms. Historically, Democrats supported the institution of slavery and sought to expand it into additional states, famously posing the question, “Who will pick the cotton?” In contrast, present-day Democrats have opted to modify only the wording of this message, now framing it as “Who will pick the crops?”

Conversely, the Republican Party has consistently opposed slavery, maintaining its foundational values in this regard. This ideological stance presents a significant challenge for the Democratic Party, as the concept of slavery is widely condemned in modern society. The notion that any party might support slavery appears untenable, particularly when comparing the positions of the Democrats and Republicans.

An illustrative example of the complexities surrounding this issue can be found in the situation involving unaccompanied minors who entered the United States during the Biden administration. Numerous children became lost in the system, their whereabouts unknown. In contrast, former President Trump made efforts to locate some of these individuals, uncovering instances where they had been exploited for cheap labor and, in some cases, subjected to human trafficking.
