Is Participating in Halloween Intrinsically Pagan?

Some assert that, because of alleged roots in paganism, participation in the modern version of Halloween is participation in paganism and evil. Is it inherently or intrinsically pagan to participate in Halloween if it has pagan roots? Is Halloween a sin because there are some that do sinful things on it or with it? Let's consider things from the standpoint of the Messiah's word.
