On October 6, 2025, during the Thadingyut full moon Buddhist festival in Chaung U township, Sagaing Region, central Myanmar, Myanmar’s military junta conducted an aerial attack using motorized paragliders (paramotors).

The assault targeted a peaceful candlelight vigil and anti-junta protest where hundreds had gathered to light oil lamps, demand the release of political prisoners like Aung San Suu Kyi, and oppose forced conscription and upcoming junta-orchestrated elections.

Witnesses report that at least one paramotor flew low over the crowd around 7 p.m., dropping two bombs directly into the center of the gathering, killing over 20 people instantly. A second paramotor returned around 11 p.m. and dropped two more bombs, though these caused no additional casualties.
