So, here is the completed parallel path device. The two coils have been wired in parallel with a 12volt battery and sure enough if you make a brief contact with the battery the magnetic flux is diverted enough for the device to lose contact with one of the keepers - I am not sure to what extent the flux path is diverted but it is clear enough the path is diverted and that is interesting in itself. The next stage is to construct an oscillator instead of this being a simple one shot device.
