Trump Threatens Insurrection Act as Courts Block National Guard Deployments

President Donald Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act after courts blocked his National Guard deployments to cities like Portland and Chicago. The rarely used law, last invoked in 1992 during the Los Angeles riots, would allow US troops to carry out domestic law enforcement, raising alarm over civil liberties. Illinois and Oregon have already sued to halt Trump’s orders, while Governor JB Pritzker accused him of using soldiers as political props. Adding to the controversy, Oregon Republicans shared a fake protest photo on Facebook, Instagram and X — now deleted everywhere except Facebook. The constitutional clash is only intensifying.
