I tested a cup warmer once before, a simple thing that just switched on and off, but did the job more or less. This new model from XREXS, best known for their range of distinctive and upmarket wall clocks, is something more.
In the rather minimalist box, I received the cup warmer with a wired and fused UK plug, and the user guide. Nothing more is needed here, but I hope they will later introduce a deluxe version with a cup included to match the stylish design of the cup warmer. The build quality is first rate. This looks and feels like a quality piece of kit.
The cup warmer is large at 14.6 x 3.1 cm, and quite substantial, easily able to support and heat even pint mugs. It is designed to work with any flat-bottomed drinking vessel that fits onto the 11.2 cm diameter heated stand. A flat bottom cup or mug will work best as it has full contact with the heating area, but even those with a raised edge will be heated by it, to some extent. Do not use paper or plastic containers.
Looking at the front of the unit, around the edge are large and easy to read icons for Timer, Temperature Up, Temperature Down, and Power. In the centre is a bright LED display showing the selected temperature.
To operate, after switching on, the screen shows the default temperature setting of 131°F( 55℃) with the default heating duration of 4 hours. To switch from Centigrade to Fahrenheit or back, press and hold the temperature up and down buttons when the unit is switched off but plugged in. To select the temperature, press the up and down buttons to select from eight presets between 113°F/45℃ and 176°F/80℃. To change the auto off time, press the timer button to select between 1 and 12 hours. When in use, the display shows the selected preset temperature, not the temperature of the liquid or the heating element. Remember too that the device is designed to maintain the temperature, not to heat a liquid up from cold.
That is pretty much it. This is an attractively designed and well made device, that looks good and works well. Currently priced at £25.99 before discounts (and there are always discounts), this is a pretty decent buy if you want to keep your coffee warm.
