David Koresh, born Vernon Wayne Howell on August 17, 1959, in Houston, Texas, was an American cult leader who led the Branch Davidians, a religious sect that became infamous following the 1993 Waco siege. His early life was troubled — he was raised by a single teenage mother, Bonnie Haldeman, and never knew his father. Koresh struggled academically due to dyslexia and dropped out of high school. In his early twenties, he developed an intense interest in the Bible and began believing that he was divinely chosen for a special purpose.....
