Landing of an EasyJet Airbus A320 at Gibraltar Airport

Let me remind you, landing and takeoff here are considered some of the most challenging because the runway is short, with the sea on both sides and hilly obstacles, and strong, gusty winds often blow.

A road runs right through the middle of the runway. The road is closed during landings and takeoffs, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic is completely stopped.

One might wonder why such difficulties? Couldn't the airport have been located differently? But look, the video shows how densely built-up the area is. Due to the small size of the peninsula and limited space, the decision to place the airport exactly here was the only possible one from an engineering standpoint.
