Savage Old Bastards — Lunatics

Back in the eighties, they slammed the doors,
Said the madhouse days were gone for sure.
The Left called it cruel, said “set ’em all loose,”
Said pills and a paycheck would be the cure.
They saw a movie and called it truth,
A hippie’s dream turned into proof.
But they never read between those lines —
Now the madness walks our streets tonight.

Yeah, the lunatics walk free,
Talkin’ to ghosts on a downtown street.
The system’s broke, but they won’t agree,
Thanks to your so-called empathy.
You called it “rights,” you called it “care,”
But you left ’em screaming in the air.
Now the cities burn and the sirens bleed,
’Cause the lunatics walk free.

Said, “Give ’em a doc, give ’em some meds,
Give ’em a room and a welfare check.”
But nobody watched, nobody stayed,
To make sure the pills were ever made.
And when they felt fine, they tossed that cure,
The voices came knockin’ at the door.
Lost their homes, their jobs, their minds,
And the streets filled up in ’89.

Yeah, the lunatics walk free,
Sleepin’ where the lost souls used to be.
You called it mercy, you called it change,
But you fed the fire, you fanned the flames.
Ask a cop from back in the day,
He’ll tell you how it all went that way.
Now the danger’s plain to see,
’Cause the lunatics walk free.

They said, “Let ’em live, let ’em be.”
Well, now they’re shoutin’ in the crosswalk, screamin’ at me.
No meds, no plan, no sanity —
Just a new kind of madness they call liberty.

Yeah, the lunatics walk free,
A Leftist dream, our misery.
You turned the keys, you broke the chain,
And now the crazy runs the train.
So thanks, you liberals, for your grand decree —
Now the lunatics walk free.

Yeah, they walk free…
And the rest of us pay the fee.
