Japan set for first woman prime minister, but equality doubts remain

In the Liberal Democratic Party's (LDP) almost continuous 70-year streak governing Japan, it had never had a female leader. That changed on Saturday (October 4) as LDP members and lawmakers elected the hardline conservative Sanae Takaichi to be the party's new leader and Japan's likely new prime minister.
