UK mosque set ablaze with two people inside

A mosque in Peacehaven, near Brighton, UK, was set on fire Saturday night in a suspected arson attack while two men in their 60s were inside.

The attackers, wearing balaclavas, reportedly tried to force the door open, poured gasoline on the steps, and set it ablaze, though no one was physically harmed.

The fire damaged the mosque’s entrance and a vehicle belonging to the mosque chairman, who relies on it for work as a taxi driver.

Police are treating the incident as a hate crime, with an increased presence at places of worship across the county, CNN has reported.

The attack follows a recent deadly assault outside a Manchester synagogue, highlighting rising concerns about Islamophobic and antisemitic violence in the UK.
