Pete Hegseth: Pentagon Strengthens Security and Regulates Press Access

Pete Hegseth emphasized that civilians and the press should never be part of information leaks at the Pentagon. “We are setting clear rules. We are not playing around,” he stated.

Hegseth explained that previously, reporters could freely roam the building, enter offices, and speak with anyone without credentials or escorts, which posed a risk to classified information. Now, the Pentagon is adopting a stricter approach, similar to the White House: those who wish to move around the building will need credentials and escorts, while access to areas such as the press room and conference rooms will still be allowed, but under supervision and clear rules.

“The American people see this as absolute common sense,” Hegseth said, noting that the expectation is that no one requests classified or sensitive information without authorization. The press can continue reporting, but always within the limits established by the Pentagon’s new security regulations.
