Mandatory digital ids (identifiers) are being launched in the United Kingdom (Great Britain). They will be known as the BritCard. British citizens have never had to carry id before except during the Second World War. We will now have to carry id now, except it will be digital.

How far will it grow? When and where will we have to present it? Will it become a license or permit to do certain things?

The government has said it will be required to work. It could expand. You may have to show your digital id not just to the state, but to your peers (civilians) such as landlords and bouncers. The possibilities are endless. It could expand to banking, education and voting.
