God’s Delicate Whisper

By Pastor Gary Wayne

Text: 1 Kings 19:11-13, Matthew 13:3-12, 1 Corinthians 12:7

This is a loaded question, what was the last command Jesus gave to His followers?
The very last command wasn’t to go, but to stay until.
Ac 1:4-5 “ And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

Understand these guys had been with Jesus in intense training for 3 years. They had personally seen signs and wonders at their command. They were the most expert ministers on the planet. Yet Jesus commanded them, don’t go out to minister until you are baptized with the Holy Spirit.

My point? We NEED the baptism of with the Holy Spirit if we want to see God move that way He intended for us to minister.
1Cor.12:7 – bottom line, the Holy Spirit is given so we can benefit the world.

Too many times, the church has been sidelined by being fixated on the different manifestations the baptism of the Spirit.
And because the Holy Spirit moves in unique ways, some opt out, relying on themselves instead of the power the Holy Spirit brings.
Though we would never say it in those words, our overall communication says as much.

Too often I find myself wanting to tell the Holy Spirit how to manifest Himself through me by how I feel the situation needs. What I need is sensitivity to Him and allow Him to manifest Himself though me by what He knows is needed.

Matthew 13:3-12 ver.12

Passon - For everyone who listens with an open heart will receive progressively more revelation until he has more than enough. But those who don’t listen with an open, teachable heart, even the understanding that they think they have will be taken from them.
NLT - To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them
Message - Whenever someone has a ready heart for this, the insights and understandings flow freely. But if there's no readiness, any trace of receptivity soon disappears.

1 Kings 19:11-13
V.12 – “a still small voice” = a delicate whispering voice.

Something that is fascinating to me is the training horses to respond without a bit and bridal.
The trainer has spent enough time with the horse, it can be trained using body language. This involves overall body posture to communicate. The horse responds by reading these nonverbal cues.
A major key is for the trainer to spend time with the horse to where they get to know each other.

I believe God is wanting to train us to respond to him through subtle pressure points, a delicate whispering voice, so we can follow the Spirit because we have spent time with Him – not just a 2 hr. session on Sunday morning, but throughout the week, spending time in His presence where we get used to hearing that voice.

Most of us want God to use a bit and bridle, so we will really know it’s God leading.

I think it is those times of intimacy where God shares His secrets to a heart that is not only wanting His power, but His presence.
