For 20 years, Spirit roamed free — loved, cared for, and known for her gentle nature.
But in one tragic week, everything changed.

Under the authority of the CFIA and RCMP, helicopters and drones were flown over the pens, terrifying the birds. In her panic, Spirit ran — injuring herself while trying to escape the machines above.

When her caregiver Karen tried to tend to Spirit’s wounds, the CFIA intervened — arresting her and forbidding her from being near the birds again. Officials claimed Spirit was “recovering,” but when supporters obtained video proof of her suffering, the truth came out: Spirit was dying, and nothing was done to save her.
