Episode 1228: Should believers invite unbelievers to church service? Part 2

Hello everyone. In today's Bible study we begin our journey through the church at Pergamos with a trip down historical lane.

Historical lane? Yes. In order to clearly understand what the Lord is communicating to the church at Pergamos, it is important that we understand what was happening during the first century.

If we attempt to place Pergamos in the 21st century or insert our culture into the 1st century then we have already changed the intent of the letter. That is not how the word of God should be studied.

Therefore we that all that history teaches us about Pergamos, examine the customs of the church according to the other New Testament books then make a conclusion based upon the entirety of the scriptures.

Both Old Testament and New Testament should be closely examined in each verse of the Lord's letter.

It reveals several truths:
1. The church was compromising.
2. The church was inviting unbelievers into their assembly which is against the word of God. I realize that this is not popular today but I do not care about popularity, I care about what my Father has declared in His word. Why would He command us to "17 Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)

Then tell us to bring them with us into the church assembly! That's utterly ridiculous and not true.
3. The unbelievers were sowing false doctrine which cause believers to stumble.
4. The unbelievers were sowing false doctrine which caused believers to give allegiance to men.
5. God promised to discipline His children and punish the wicked.
6. God promised to give His children bread to eat and a new name.

It's really breaks my heart to see the church compromise as much as it does these days.

Today's study is 1 hour and 31 minutes in duration. I have broken it into eight segments. This is segment 4 of 8 titled Should believers invite unbelievers to church service? Part 2
