The World Segregates Jesus and Believers as Jesus Grants Deification to Believers – Mark 15:42–16:20

In this brief excerpt from the course, Jesus and Myth, Dr. Barber discusses how members of myth-culture progress from sameness with others, to being scandalized by them, to falling into the snare of striving against them, to scapegoating them, to sating themselves on them, to now, segregating their victim(s) out of 'existence.'

Meanwhile, Jesus once again demonstrates that He alone is not a member of myth-culture, is not mythological.

Jesus is distinct, rather than engaging in sameness with others. Jesus diffuses scandals rather than causing scandals. Jesus defers to His Heavenly Father's will for Him, and for all men, the Way of the Cross, rather than falling into the snare of striving. Jesus delivers others – even the whole world – by giving His life to save us all, instead of scapegoating. Jesus makes His self-sacrifice to be displayed and dispersed to the world, instead of sating Himself on others.

And finally, Jesus deifies everyone who believes in Him, granting them reunion with and eternal life in God, rather than oppressively segregating them into nonexistence.

Are you following Jesus' pattern, being deified by faith in Jesus and offering deification to others through the gospel of the Cross of Christ? Or do you follow myth's pattern, segregating your own self and segregating others into hopelessness and despair?
