Gameplay Part 1

Resident Evil 3 is a 2020 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It is a remake of the 1999 game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Players control former 'S.T.A.R.S' police officer Jill Valentine and mercenary Carlos Oliveira as they attempt to find a vaccine and escape from a city during a zombie outbreak. Played from a third-person perspective, the player must defeat monsters and solve puzzles while being pursued by an engineered mutant called the Nemesis.

Jill Valentine is one of the last remaining people in Raccoon City to witness the atrocities Umbrella performed. To stop her, Umbrella unleashes their ultimate secret weapon: Nemesis!

Experience another perspective of the once-vibrant Raccoon City's nightmarish outbreak of the T-Virus, a biological weapon developed by Umbrella Corporation. Jill Valentine's harrowing struggle for survival takes her from the early moments of the outbreak, and overlaps with the events depicted in the acclaimed best-selling Resident Evil 2 before arriving at the dramatic conclusion of the Raccoon City saga.

Prologue: Downtown:

Jill Valentine begins her nightmare amid the collapse of Raccoon City, racing through downtown streets rife with zombies, burning vehicles, and debris. She’s aided early on by Carlos Oliveira, a member of the U.B.C.S. mercenary force, who helps guide her toward safer zones. Along the way she rescues a young girl, Brad Vickers, from infection and fends off aggressive zombie dogs and relentless undead. The ever-present Nemesis stalks Jill in cinematic “Pursuer” sequences, forcing her to run or find shelter rather than fight outright. Puzzles, locked doors, and limited ammo reinforce the series’ survival horror DNA, making every encounter tense. By the end of this section, Jill reaches a tram station and escapes the downtown into the city’s underbelly, setting up the next stage.

Uptown:

Jill and Carlos move into uptown Raccoon City, where once-safe residential zones are now consumed by horror. They encounter static zombies, burning houses, collapsing streets, and barricades that block direct paths, forcing exploration via alleys and side streets. Jill picks up crucial items like the Gear Key which unlocks shortcuts and opens routes, while dodging recurring Nemesis assaults. There’s also a memorable elevator escape when Nemesis smashes through, pushing players to think fast under pressure. Carlos intermittently helps in support, but Jill must sometimes go solo to solve key puzzles and reach the Underground Entrance. The section ends with Jill descending into the sewers, aware that Nemesis remains a looming threat.

Sewers:

In the sewers, Jill’s surroundings grow darker, more claustrophobic, and dangerous, with swamps, collapsing tunnels, and awful water hazards. She battles big leech creatures, swamp zombies, and mutant monsters adapted to the underground. The environment demands use of maps, careful ammo conservation, and platforming via catwalks and flood gates. Nemesis pursues her in horror-movie style — often appearing unexpectedly or causing structural damage to chase her down. Jill also meets Brad again, who’s barricaded himself and helps with key items (though his loyalty wavers). At section’s end, Jill climbs into the police station’s underground entrance, narrowly escaping Nemesis for the moment.

Nemesis Boss Fight 1:

The first major boss confrontation with Nemesis-T Type hits hard: Jill must confront the mutated Nemesis in a semi-open arena. The battle forces her to rely on precision shooting (especially targeting his exposed heart organ) and clever use of the environment — breakout barrels, explosive barrels, and cover all matter. Nemesis relentlessly pursues her through sections of the map, forcing dynamic movement rather than static fight. The camera shifts, threats appear from above, and sudden attack windows force the player to adapt. After depleting enough health, Nemesis staggers and Jill escapes through collapsing corridors just ahead of his final lunge. This moment cements Nemesis as greater than just “just another boss” — he’s an unrelenting force.

Downtown Again (Part 1):

Jill is thrust back into the ruined heart of Raccoon City, with Nemesis in full chase mode and the city’s chaos at its peak. Jill stops in the gun shop for some ammo and runs into Kendo, the owner and father in RE2, whom she knows and obtains the gate key.
