A fight over a football game between Tuskegee University and Morehouse College exploded into a mass shooting in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, leaving two people dead and 14 others injured, including two children.
The chaos erupted just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday night in the Bibb Street and Commerce Street area — one of Montgomery’s busiest tourist districts — following the annual Tuskegee vs. Morehouse HBCU Classic.

According to Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys, the shooting began after a brawl between rival groups escalated into a running gunfight through the crowded streets. Witnesses described people “firing wildly into the crowd,” hitting bystanders, tourists, and multiple vehicles.
Police confirmed that three victims remain in critical condition and that no arrests have been made as the Montgomery Police Department continues its investigation.

Authorities say at least 12 of the victims remain hospitalized, while investigators collect evidence and surveillance footage to identify the shooters.
The Montgomery mass shooting is drawing national attention — not only because it followed an HBCU football game, but because children were among the injured.

This tragedy adds to a growing list of mass shootings in Alabama this year, highlighting continued concerns over gun violence, crowd safety, and police response in tourist-heavy areas.
