On this journey, we often run with blades in hand and fury in our hearts. But today, I stopped. I stopped to remember, to breathe, to honor. The Sumiyoshi Shrine—three sacred sanctuaries standing as monuments to all who came before—called to me. I knelt, bowed, and prayed. Not for vengeance, not for power, but for clarity. For guidance. I thanked the ancestors whose sacrifices flow in my blood, whose echoes push me forward. Their voices are quiet now, but I feel them watching. Approving. The silence after prayer is always heavier than the words spoken.

As I turned to leave, I caught sight of something rare and beautiful—a graceful grey heron perched upon a rock near the water’s edge. Still. Unbothered. Sacred. I crept forward, slowly, quietly, as if disturbing this moment would break the spell. I pulled out my sketching tools and drew. Line by line, I captured its posture, its elegance, its wisdom. Herons are said to be messengers of peace, of balance between worlds. Perhaps this was no coincidence. Perhaps I needed a reminder of what I fight to protect—not just people, but peace itself.
