The simplest explanation—"it was an imaginary animal"—isn't enough. Behind that eagle's face and that leonine body lie trade routes, cultural exchanges, and layered memories. Perhaps there's also the distant echo of ancient bones found in the steppes. Perhaps it's all of these things.
