Tucker Carlson: Everybody’s Afraid of Israel
Conservative journalist and commentator Tucker Carlson has once again ignited international debate with remarks that challenge the official Washington narrative and the mainstream media consensus. This time, Carlson addressed one of the most sensitive subjects in U.S. politics: America’s relationship with Israel. His blunt words, delivered in his trademark style, have placed on the table what many see as a forbidden topic in public discourse.
Carlson stated that “everybody’s afraid of Israel”, pointing out that there is a widespread fear not only of criticizing Israeli policies but even of having an honest conversation about the issue. According to him, throughout his career there has never been an open and legitimate debate about Israel’s role in U.S. politics. “That works well for Israel,” he added, suggesting that the absence of criticism allows the Middle Eastern state to maintain an unprecedented level of influence in Washington’s foreign policy.
The commentator also addressed the surge of antisemitic comments online. While he acknowledged that some of them come from irrational haters, he posed an uncomfortable question: how many of these comments are truly organic and how many are manufactured?. Carlson suggested that in some cases, such rhetoric may be used as a tool to discredit legitimate criticism by blending reasonable voices with extremist rhetoric.
For Carlson, the issue is not about religion or ethnicity, but about the political relationship between governments. In his view, the way Washington has subordinated its national interests to those of Israel “seems as irrational as hatred itself.” He emphasized that this is not about antisemitism, but about sovereignty. Governments must act for the benefit of their own citizens, not foreign powers. Yet in the U.S., questioning Israeli influence has become virtually off-limits, punished with accusations of antisemitism.
This perspective ties into a long-standing conservative grievance: the inability of Congress and the White House to put American interests first. From billions in aid to Israel to entanglements in Middle Eastern conflicts, Carlson and others argue that U.S. foreign policy often appears designed to serve others rather than the average American taxpayer who bears the costs.
Carlson’s remarks have triggered intense reactions. His supporters praise him for daring to speak on an “untouchable” subject, while his critics accuse him of fueling dangerous narratives. Yet Carlson insists that the real danger lies in silencing debate: when a democracy cannot openly discuss its foreign policy, that democracy is already in decline.
The international context makes his comments even more relevant. At a time when Israel faces widespread criticism over its actions in Gaza and its settlement policies in the West Bank, the United States continues its unconditional support. For Carlson, the absence of serious debate in Washington only strengthens the impression that America is trapped in an imbalanced relationship that benefits a few at the expense of many.
Tucker Carlson’s words serve as a wake-up call: foreign policy cannot be built on fear of discussion. The United States must reclaim the ability to freely debate its alliances and ask whether they truly serve the nation’s interests.
