When most people think about threats to their health, they focus on obvious culprits—poor diet, lack of exercise, or even chronic illnesses. But as revealed in the podcast episode "Toxicity: The Hidden Saboteur of Vibrant Health," hosted by Martin Pytela and Scott Paton, there’s an insidious factor lurking beneath the surface: toxicity, in both environmental and emotional forms.

We Live in a Toxic World
As Scott Paton pointed out, "Five hundred years ago, you did not have to deal with tons of mercury being pumped into the air with pesticides, drowning your food, microwaves bouncing all over the sky. We live in a toxic world." Today, environmental pollutants overwhelm our bodies. Toxins—whether from heavy metals, plastics, pesticides, or volatile organic compounds—permeate our air, food, and water.

The rapid advances of the industrial age have brought us many conveniences, but they have also exposed us to unprecedented levels of environmental toxicity. So what can we do about it? According to Martin Pytela, detoxification is essential for restoring and maintaining vibrant health.

The Hidden Layer: Emotional Toxicity
While environmental toxins are widely acknowledged, Martin and Scott emphasized an often-overlooked threat: emotional and mental toxicity. "I want to talk about one that is, in my mind, it's always the straw that breaks the camel's back, and that is mental and emotional toxicity," Scott explained.

To illustrate, Scott shared a recent experience of social media drama after he posted about trying giraffe meat while traveling in South Africa. The incident quickly spiraled into a barrage of accusations and negativity from an online acquaintance, demonstrating how easily toxic interactions can invade our mental space and elevate stress.

Martin supported this with a story of how a simple miscommunication with a customer escalated on social media, showing how quickly negativity can snowball and affect well-being. Both hosts highlighted the need to "remove toxic... people that you've never met in person, toxic individuals from your life because they cause a whole pile of stress, a whole bottle of drama," as Scott put it.

The Biochemistry of Being Triggered
But this toxicity isn’t just emotional—it has a physical impact, too. Martin explained, "if someone's being triggered, they're probably acidic." He elaborated that acidity in the body brings anxiety and irritability, while alkalinity can cause procrastination and depression. This means our emotional responses are closely tied to our body's biochemistry.

Martin discussed the importance of knowing your metabolic type. "If you're an oxidizer, you need fat. If you're autonomic, you need carbs. It's not the same solution for everyone." Emotional resilience, therefore, can be supported by understanding and nourishing your unique body chemistry.

Detoxifying Body and Mind
So, what are some practical ways to mitigate toxicity? Martin's go-to environmental detox recommendation is zeolite, a natural mineral known for binding and removing heavy metals and other toxins. He also mentioned iodine, magnesium, and chlorophyll-rich foods (such as "aura greens," a combination of various grasses like kamut and alfalfa) as vital supports.
