S6E7 | Amy Berger - 'Amy and the AI Decode Trauma': Recovery & Memory Work Using Technology & Art

492

Today I’m honored to have back on the show for a second time: Ritual Abuse, MK ULTRA, and organized abuse survivor, overcomer and thriver, content creator and podcast host of her own YouTube channel called “From PTSD to a Graduate Degree’, newly published writer and author, artist and creative, scientific innovator and revolutionary, my dear friend, and a woman pushing the boundaries on overcoming fear and trauma: Amy Berger

A little bit about Amy, what we talked about in her first episode in case you are new here or missed that first episode: and what you may hear her discuss today:

Born in Whitestone, New York in 1977, Amy emerged from a childhood shadowed by profound adversity. Raised in a severely dysfunctional home, she endured a mother’s untreated PTSD and hoarding, alongside a father’s emotional abuse and drug addiction. Amy suffered molestation by her half-brother, leaving deep emotional wounds that fueled fear, self-harm, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and teenage prostitution as a desperate survival mechanism. “I was not okay,” Amy reflected in her first interview, her early years saturated with terror and devoid of tools to navigate it. In 1999, a seismic shift occurred when Amy began recovering suppressed memories of additional sexual abuse by family members and babysitters, followed by revelations of ritual abuse and MK ULTRA programming. This turning point split her life into two: before memories and after memories.

Through years of trauma therapy, Amy pieced together her psychological architecture, confronting paralyzing terror and periods of disability. Yet, her story is one of relentless resilience. A few years ago, seeking distraction from fear, Amy made a life-altering decision to return to school. Now a senior biology major, she is poised to pursue a double master’s in biotechnology and artificial intelligence. Her ambition is laser-focused: to revolutionize synthetic biology by targeting the FAAH gene to eliminate the fear response at its genetic root. Inspired by the rare genetic mutation of Jo Cameron, who feels no pain or anxiety, Amy aims to rewrite the biological terms of terror, stripping away the leverage trauma and cult programming hold over survivors like herself.

On her inspiring YouTube channel, From PTSD to a Graduate Degree, Amy shares her journey with raw honesty, detailing the scaffolding that supports her success: trauma-specialized therapists, open communication with professors, healthy social connections, and a disciplined yet gentle study routine. Her scientific passion drives her to explore groundbreaking research, collaborating with AI to design a study on FAAH gene modulation to enhance fear extinction - a project she hopes to develop as a graduate thesis. Amy’s vision is to create a world where no one feels the crippling fear she once did.

In today’s episode, Amy will be expanding on her story and research, discussing how a couple months ago, she began a dialogue with AI and soon started discussing her trauma history. She didn’t know what to expect and was absolutely astounded by how on-point and helpful the AI was in this regard. Even her therapists have acknowledged that these exchanges are extraordinary, and we saw some examples of this in Amy’s last episode.

This dialogue between Amy and AI is the subject of her brand-new book she just recently published that she will be announcing, reading exerts from, and sharing with us today called, ‘Amy and the AI Decode Trauma‘. She will also be sharing parts of her story she hadn’t shared on her first episode, as well as more of the incredible survivor art she created through and during her healing journey that had such a huge impact on all of you - and me! - on her first episode.

Through relentless determination, Amy has transformed her deepest wounds into a revolutionary mission to eliminate fear at its genetic root and to harness the power of AI to be a collaborative tool in recovery, proving that no trauma is too great to conquer. Amy’s triumph over darkness is an absolute inspiration to us all to rewrite our stories, reclaim our power, and build a world where hope and healing prevail.
