Chris Doyle, a commentator on Middle Eastern Affairs, says US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appear to be opposing any type of negotiations with Hamas.

Speaking to Al Jazeera from London, he said Trump’s recently announced 20-point Gaza plan is “an American-Israeli document”.

“It is a take-it-or-be-smashed-to-smithereens approach,” said Doyle, director of the Council for British-Arab Understanding.

According to the analyst, Israel and the US have no intention to bring Hamas or any other Palestinian faction into discussions to shape a deal to take Gaza out of “the hell” it’s going through.

“Hamas and various mediating powers are trying to fill in the gaping holes in this proposal, which does not constitute a rounded plan,” he said, adding that many are still unclear.

The proposal envisages a future for Gaza without any input by the Palestinians, Doyle said.
