Global demonstrations after Israel detains Gaza flotilla activists

Protesters in Europe, Australia and South America have taken to the streets to condemn Israel's interception of an aid flotilla, challenging the blockade of Gaza.

The Israelis detained more than 400 activists, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, and plan to deport them.

Israel said its navy told the boats to change course as they were "approaching an active combat zone and violating a lawful naval blockade", while the Global Sumud Flotilla described the interceptions as "illegal".
